A summer school is one of the easiest ways to try studying abroad without making a long commitment. A programme of a few weeks allows young people to use a foreign language in real life, meet peers from different countries and, for the first time, spend time away from their family in a safe environment. At Weroglobal Student, on this page we answer the questions most frequently asked by families.

Which age groups are programmes available for?

The junior programmes of the language schools in our partner sources are designed for different age ranges. For example, some schools in the UK and Malta organise summer programmes for the 11–17 age group, while a school in Canada offers winter and summer courses for young people aged 15–18. As age limits vary from school to school, we clarify your child's age and language level in the first meeting.

What does the programme include?

  • Language lessons: English or German lessons held in the mornings in classes organised by level.
  • Social and cultural activities: city tours, sports activities, museum visits and weekend excursions.
  • Supervised accommodation: in junior programmes, accommodation, activities and school supervision are mostly offered as a package.

Which countries stand out?

United Kingdom

Junior summer schools are among the language study options in the UK. Campus-style programmes and courses held in academic cities are frequently chosen by families.

Malta and Ireland

In both countries, summer schools appear in the language schools' programme lists. As courses in Malta can start from 2 weeks, it is a practical option for a short summer experience.

Germany

There are schools that organise summer programmes for young people who want to learn German. The source gives a weekly range of approximately €1,100 – €1,250 for the junior summer package with accommodation at a language school with campuses in Germany. This amount is approximate and may vary by season and the school's current price list.

Why are prices not fixed?

In junior programmes, the price varies depending on whether accommodation and activities are included in the package, the city and especially the season. In busy weeks such as July and August, places may fill up early. So instead of promising a specific date or price, we obtain current quotes from the schools you are interested in and present them for comparison.

University summer schools and short certificate programmes

Some universities organise international summer schools and seminars for final-year high school and university students; our partner sources mention such programmes at a technical university in St. Petersburg. For adults, short-term certificate programmes in fields such as business, digital marketing, software and finance can also be considered.

What families need to prepare

  • A valid passport and a check of the destination country's visa requirements
  • Parental consent documents for minors
  • Travel and health insurance
  • Informing the school of any health conditions, allergies and dietary preferences

If you share your child's age, language level and suitable weeks, we can look at the two or three programmes that suit them best together.
