A master's application works on a different logic from a bachelor's application. It is no longer just your diploma that is assessed, but also the field you want to specialise in, what you have done so far and how you present it. At Weroglobal Student, this service focuses less on collecting documents and more on matching your academic story with the right programme.
First, which type of master's?
- Thesis-based master's: the more common route for those considering an academic career or a doctorate. The research topic and supervisor profile need to be considered early.
- Non-thesis or applied programme: suitable for those who want to return directly to working life, but may not be available in every country or at every university.
- MBA and management programmes: designed for candidates with work experience; fees are generally higher than for other programmes.
The parts that make your file strong
Diploma and transcript
Your bachelor's degree and transcript are the core documents. Most countries require an apostille and certified translation. If you have not yet graduated, we identify separately the programmes that accept applications with a provisional graduation certificate.
Motivation letter and CV
In English-taught programmes, the motivation letter is often decisive. You need to write your letter not with ready-made templates but around your own projects, internships and goals. We give feedback on structure, focus and consistency, and help make your CV fit the international format.
Reference letters
Academic references are recommended, especially for postgraduate applications. When asking your professors for a letter, we suggest giving them enough time and briefly describing the programme you are applying to.
Language certificate
Depending on the language of the programme, IELTS, TOEFL or the university's own exam may be required. For Russian-taught programmes, a preparatory year comes into play if you lack language proficiency.
Country example: a master's in Russia
Russia is one of the countries we frequently consider for master's study. Our partner sources state that the standard duration is 2 years and that ALES is not required for applications. The average annual fee ranges given in the source for 2026 are as follows:
- Russian-taught master's programmes: 2,500 – 5,500 USD per year
- English-taught master's programmes: 3,500 – 8,500 USD per year
- MBA: 4,000 – 10,000 USD per year
Some technical universities may hold an online interview or a departmental assessment. Quota-based scholarships such as the Russian Government Scholarship also open in limited numbers each year, so it is important to start the timeline early.
An example from Europe: the Baltic countries
Latvia offers English-taught master's programmes in technical fields. The source lists sample annual fees at Riga Technical University of €4140 for the Business Informatics programme and €4430 for the Computer Systems programme. Current fees may change from one intake to the next.
Recognition and return plan
A master's degree obtained abroad is reviewed by YÖK individually, on a case-by-case basis. The university's status, the language of the programme and its ranking may play a role in this assessment. If you are thinking of working in public institutions or academia in Turkey, we recommend reviewing this issue together against YÖK's current regulations before choosing a programme.
Timing
Master's applications require longer preparation than bachelor's applications: the language exam, references and letter drafts may take several months. We work backwards from your target intake to create a timeline and determine together what needs to be completed in which month.
If you share your field and the documents you have, we can list the programmes you can apply to together in the first meeting.
